As this year comes to a close, there is no doubt that we have all been through difficult times - full of uncertainty and fear. “Reaching Out For You”; written by Raquel Aurilia and Cam Carter, mixed by Gardner Cole, with a beat from Burnbeats; focuses on this reality and how it affects us all.
Cam: “When the world becomes afraid of human contact, I wanted to capture an uncertain time in history, which in reality is now, and instill hope by reminding everyone how it feels to risk everything in order to hold the person you love.”
Cam (living in Los Angeles, California) and Raquel (living in Phoenix, Arizona) met through Instagram and decided to collaborate in a fashion characteristic of 2020.
Raquel: “Thanks to social media, we were able to "meet" so to speak without actually having met in person. We are both so passionate about what we do so we were excited to make this collaboration happen!”
The two artists spent a lot of time on the phone: first finding a cool beat they both loved, then decided on the song’s direction. Once the lyrics were complete, Raquel and Cam worked on and recorded their parts separately.
Raquel: “Even though everything was done apart, we always made sure we were both on the same page with everything and I'm really proud of how it turned out!”
Cam’s recordings were sent over to Arizona, where producer Gardner Cole mixed the song together in his studio. Gardner Cole has previously worked with Madonna (having written the well known song “Open Your Heart”) as well as Amy Grant.
Raquel: “[Gardner Cole] and I have worked together in the past and I knew he would do a great job with everything.” Social media has continued to be integral for Cam and Raquel, helping them stay connected and share their music with the world.
Cam: “Music sometimes has a natural way of bringing people together.”
Reflecting obstacles we have all faced recently, “Reaching Out For You” accomplished what might have seemed impossible just a year ago.
Raquel: “Working together on this song with Cam has been a great experience and it just goes to show you that if you are passionate about what you do (which we both are) then you find a way to get things done, even in the middle of a pandemic when we couldn’t really be in the same place.”
“Regardless of what society thinks. Love still conquers.” - Cam Carter
